The term “Fuji Paper Test” refers to any pressure measurement experiment made with either Fujifilm Prescale® or Pressurex-micro®. These products contain a layer of microspheres that rupture when pressure is applied. After rupture, a developer changes the color to a shade of pink for Fujifilm Prescale® or a grayscale color for Pressurex-micro®. The intensity of the color change is proportional to the amount of pressure.
Researchers at Yonsei University College of Medicine in Seoul, Korea performed Fuji Paper Tests using Fujifilm Prescale® low pressure film, code LW, which operates between 2.5 and 10.0 MPa. The published research is “Femoral Graft-Tunnel Angles in Posterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: Analysis with 3-Dimensional Models and Cadaveric Experiments.” Sung-Jae Kim, Yong-Min Chun, Sung-Hwan Kim, Hong-Kyo Moon, and Jae-Won Jang, Yonsei Med J 54(4):1006-1014, 2013. To perform this work, Sung-Jae Kim, et al, studied posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction of knee joints. Figure 1 shows the Fuji paper test site, and Figure 2 show representative test results.

The left side of Figure 2 shows the Fujifilm Prescale® sheets immediately after the tests. Topaq® analyses of the raw results are shown on the right side of Figure 2. Topaq® scans the raw results using a calibrated densitimetric scanner and then converts them into a colored display.
A second example of a Fuji Paper Test was performed by Yun-Biao Xin of Wafer Technology, MEMC Electronic Materials, Inc, St Peters, MO. This work was titled, “Modeling of Pad-Wafer Contact Pressure Distribution in Chemical-Mechanical Polishing.” These Fuji Paper Tests were performed with Pressurex-micro®, which operates below 20 psi (1.5 kg/cm²). Figures 3 and 4 show the results of this work. Figure 3 shows a dark region at the circumference of the soft rubber pad. This dark ring indicates a high pressure area. Figure 4 shows no ring for the harder Rodel H-2 pad.
